Pocket Literacy Coach

Pocket Literacy Coach is a text messaging service created by three Ph. D’s of education. The service provides quick, easy lessons to help parents build a foundation of knowledge for their child’s development. Visit http://www.pocketliteracy.com/ to see the site in action!
The site needed strong structure and content for adults, with somewhat playful design elements to reinforce the focus on children and child development. Heavily rounded corners and bright colors coupled with strong alignment and images of adults and caregivers brought these concepts to a balance.
The website owner wanted the header image to change between three different images, from a mother and her child, to a young girl, to a caregiver and two boys. I used PHP to rotate these three images randomly. This is a nice surprise and small detail that keeps the site fresh every time a user visits it.
I’ve also incorporated Paypal into the site with custom buttons so customers can input their cell number and sign up for the service through Paypal.
All of the text on PocketLiteracy.com is completely dynamic, including the sample text message, customer testimonial, about blurb on the front page, every page, the contact form, the blog, the widgets on the side, and the navigation at the top. This gives the site owner full freedom to change every bit of content on the site.
As a side note, I am an advocate of progressive enhancement. Internet Explorer and other less capable browsers will provide a full experience and complete ability to consume all content without a hitch, but browsers supporting CSS3 will see a few bonuses in the form of CSS rounded corners.
